No Child Left Behind

I came across a blog about the "No Child Left Behind" law that was passed by George W. Bush about ten years ago. I am  not really sure what to make out of this blog. It states there is an article yet I don't find any information on how to get to the article that was read and it doesn't mention any title of the article itself. People don't necessarily need to read an article to know about the law that was passed or how it is going to affect our children.  I do, however, know about this law and understand the standards that are being placed in schools. I feel that this is a great thing because children can be filled with so much knowledge at a young age that it will make a difference in our world tomorrow. The states that are being granted flexibility is because these states have com up with a different way to measure children rather that tests alone. President Obama wants our children to reach their full potential and what better way to figure that out than by asking our parents, teachers, and kids themselves.

Education

Education has been a very important tool to the success of people of every race, gender, and age. Now more than ever we need the help from the government to help financially to obtain goals such as earning these degrees to be able to have a successful career to be able to support ourselves and loved ones.
I feel our government is not doing what they could be or should be doing to help our economy get the boost it needs. If more people were able to afford to go or get help from the government to be able to attend college or a trade school they would be able to get a career and help out the economy in the long haul. There are so many people who long for the chance to receive an education, to make a better life for ourselves and families. Yet, we have limited resources to find help or even receive help. Stated in College Inc. in a blog titled “Hispanics are crucial to college completion goals” it says that the American economy will not prosper unless we do, speaking for the minority.
Like the many other minorities I was the first in my family to be able to go and complete college, and along with that came expenses and worries of how to pay for them. Although I was able to find some help, most students don’t know what resources are available to them, and we don’t do a good job of telling them where they can go for help. Obama wants us to be the leader as a nation with the most percentage of people with a degree but how can we do that when we are limited to funds and resources available?

A Woman's Window

An editorial written by Mary Spaulding Balch, J.D
Mary is the Director of NRLC’s (National Right to Life Committee) Department of State Legislation
In this editorial Mary gives many reasons on why having the new laws about the process of an abortion are a good thing for the women themselves. While I agree on all her points I still have questions on the law itself. Will you have to go through this process if your body rejects the fetus? I believe she made valuable points on why this method is best.
Women know that when they are pregnant what that entails. We know there is something inside our belly and is living and growing. Going to the doctor to see the fetus is just a realization that there is a baby and is living as we hear the heartbeat. We know because we see the baby moving as the doctor describes what each part of the body is.
She believes it helps us get truth and non-misleading information. It helps us fully understand about what we are about to do, and the consequences we will have to live with. We will stop the beating heart; we will make the baby move no more. The baby will be taken out and will not grow to maturity. It makes us decide, again, if this is the route we want to take.
She attacks on how people are saying a vaginal ultrasound is intrusive; but when the baby is taken out the most used method is a violent suction apparatus. When most mothers are just finding out they are pregnant or wanting an abortion this method on vaginal ultrasounds are used because the baby is so small and can’t be seen clearly for some reasons.
She questions us on what is so different on this mandatory process. Will we see something we have never seen before, will it change the mind of the woman who wants this, and will it only further our families in poverty? Why is this bad?

Free Insurance

On Valentine’s Day this year Jonah Goldberg commented on Obama’s administration forcing religious employers to provide coverage for preventive services. Jonah Golberg is a major journalist all over the country. He is a young conservative, who writes on a wide spectrum of topics from economic trends to pop culture. He has appeared on multiple television and radio shows. He is a member of the USA Today Board of Contributors. In 2001 he received the award for Lowell Thomas Award.  “Free Healthcare? That’s Rich” is spoken towards all public people about Obamacare, specifically on how our government is slowly but surely going to take our Freedoms and Rights to choose, as they are making the decisions for us. The argument made in this article is that we need to start paying more attention to what is actually happening and being done in our country as a whole.  Obamacare is a law that was signed by President Obama on March 23, 2010 and is also known as Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. Obamacare is about providing more and better healthcare for everyone. With these new rules it’s basically telling these religious employers if you don’t want to provide this for your workers then cut out the insurance you provide as a whole, which goes against Obamacare to the fullest. Jonah refers back to what Presidential contender Rick Santorum says "It's about economic liberty. It's about freedom of speech. It's about freedom of religion. It's about government control of your lives. And it's got to stop!" Rick Santorum is our Republican presidential candidate and has had 16 years in Congress. Rick sounds like a man who wants equality across the board and that government laws should maintain that.
I think I was a little confused with this article not about what he was trying to convey but of whom he wanted us to be afraid of. He mentions Obamacare and then in the end Rick Santorum. I think his main focus should have been on the problem at hand; whether the law for all establishments should cover birth control” for everyone or if these establishments should be able to make that choice on their own. I think establishments should have their own say on whether or not they provide free of charge to their employers. People should know going in whether their place of work will cover the expenses or not.

Releasing Restraints

“Leave No Child Behind” is a law that was originally passed by former President Bush to set standards for schools to see how well the students are doing. President Obama signed a new law on Thursday to let ten states free of these requirements. I liked this article because we have recently discussed that our Federal System Power is shared and the national government dictates what the states can do in certain situations.

In an Article in The Dallas Morning News we find that President Obama has relieved ten of our states with the current standards for children in school. Texas has not even applied for this waiver. I both like and dislike this new law. It is a good thing that we are not pressuring our teachers to “teach to the test” but also to look at a child on a whole level instead of just on math and reading.
