A Woman's Window

An editorial written by Mary Spaulding Balch, J.D
Mary is the Director of NRLC’s (National Right to Life Committee) Department of State Legislation
In this editorial Mary gives many reasons on why having the new laws about the process of an abortion are a good thing for the women themselves. While I agree on all her points I still have questions on the law itself. Will you have to go through this process if your body rejects the fetus? I believe she made valuable points on why this method is best.
Women know that when they are pregnant what that entails. We know there is something inside our belly and is living and growing. Going to the doctor to see the fetus is just a realization that there is a baby and is living as we hear the heartbeat. We know because we see the baby moving as the doctor describes what each part of the body is.
She believes it helps us get truth and non-misleading information. It helps us fully understand about what we are about to do, and the consequences we will have to live with. We will stop the beating heart; we will make the baby move no more. The baby will be taken out and will not grow to maturity. It makes us decide, again, if this is the route we want to take.
She attacks on how people are saying a vaginal ultrasound is intrusive; but when the baby is taken out the most used method is a violent suction apparatus. When most mothers are just finding out they are pregnant or wanting an abortion this method on vaginal ultrasounds are used because the baby is so small and can’t be seen clearly for some reasons.
She questions us on what is so different on this mandatory process. Will we see something we have never seen before, will it change the mind of the woman who wants this, and will it only further our families in poverty? Why is this bad?
